Hi I’m Elaine, the designer and maker behind Sunnyblue Designs. I live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
I learnt to sew on my Great Grandmother’s Singer sewing machine with a hand wheel, which I still have. It is now retired and heading for 100 years old! I have always loved making things and studying needlework at high-school gave me a good understanding of fabrics and their qualities.
After finishing a higher national diploma in textiles and surface pattern design at college, I worked in the industry for a number of years in the UK before moving to Australia in the late 90’s. Here I moved into graphic design. But it was in 2014 that I picked up the pencil and started sketching again and realised that I had reconnected with my creative side – a full circle!
So, Sunnyblue Designs was born and evolved from me embracing my real passion (my artistic side). I gain much fulfilment from sketching and designing patterns from the inspiration around me, in particular the tropical coast here in Queensland, Australia. Then, to be able to make things out of this fabric I’ve designed is something else! I get a buzz of excitement from everything I make…..
When I’m not making, I’ll be sketching, designing or dreaming up new creations.
I hope you enjoy browsing my shop. If you would like to keep an eye out for any of my new fabric designs you can find me at:
